Geographic Range: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
Diet: Herbivorous; primarily feeds on algae and plant matter.
Average Adult Size: 4-5 inches
Preferred Water Parameters: pH 8.0-9.0, Temperature 75-82°F
Minimum Tank Size: 55 gallons
Acceptable Tank Mates: Other herbivorous Tanganyikan cichlids, particularly other Tropheus species. They are best kept in large groups to spread aggression and minimize stress. Provide plenty of rocks and hiding spots to establish territories. Avoid keeping with overly aggressive or carnivorous species.
