Description

Thorichthys meeki

Common Name: Firemouth Cichlid

Origin: Endemic to freshwater habitats in Central America, specifically found in rivers and lakes in Mexico and Belize.

Geographic Range: Native to Central America.

Diet: Omnivore; In the wild, they feed on a variety of small fish, insects, and invertebrates. In captivity, provide a balanced diet with high-quality pellets, cichlid pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and other protein-rich offerings.

Average Adult Size: Can reach up to 6 inches (15 cm).

Sexual Dimorphism: Limited sexual dimorphism. Males may develop slightly more extended dorsal and anal fins, and their coloration may intensify during breeding.

Minimum Tank Size: A tank of at least 30 gallons is recommended for adult Thorichthys meeki.

Temperament: Moderately aggressive. Can be kept in a community tank with other cichlids of similar size and temperament.
