Description
Geographic Range: From several locations such as Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, and Borneo.
Diet: S. osphromenoides is a micropredator by nature. In the aquarium, frozen foods such as baby brine shrimp, tubifex worms, chopped bloodworms, and daphnia should be offered regularly.
Average Adult Size: 2 inches
Minimum Tank Size: 10 Gallons for a group of 6
Temperament: Peaceful with tankmates
Recommended Water Parameters
pH: 3.0- 7.5
Temp: 78 to 88°f
Hardness: Prefers softer water (less that 1dH) but can tolerate up to 6dH safely
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate: under 30ppm
General Notes: Ideally kept as a small group (6 or more). Prefers a dimly lit tank featuring large pieces of wood or branches and a sandy substrate. Plenty of caves, hides, and decorations to break line of sight will help with interspecies aggression. Prefers acidic, blackwater environments- can tolerate up to 7.5 pH. The addition of dried leaves and cones will aid in lowering pH and offer a more natural look and feel. A fantastic tankmate for Boraras species, such as the Chili rasbora (B. brigittae).
